Memorial Day Madness 2010

This weekend was one of transformations. Thursday nights Salty Dogs turned into shots of 100 proof Captain Morgan which then quickly turned into this:
Jason and Matt trying to take a picture...

which turned into this
which became this
wrasslin' boys...

Friday's amazing weather and ice cold beer
turned into jaegerbombs which turned into this:

Matt, passed out in the pool chair which turned into this...

His wife, Lisa and I trying to take a funny picture.
We didn't notice he was awake until after....

Then Saturday's more of the same beautiful weather and yummy Creamsicles turned into beer which turned into me letting people slap my fiance for a nominal charge...
Don't worry, he's fine. He also went to bed before us girls.

Don't quite know how I got this clear picture in the midst of all that but you should learn this cat's name for later purposes and not only because this is the coolest stray cat EVER!
I give you, Sanchez. Check out his 'stache...

Then the next morning, Matt and I woke up and put the same shirt on. How's that for funny!
The Bloody Mary's turned into beer which turned into the most wretched shot ever. The night before I poured a mini bag of skittles into a shot of vodka and left it to soak, then promptly forgot about it. I brought it out and since I mixed the purple skittles with the green and yellow...you can imagine, it looked like swamp water. Which Lisa promptly took and swallowed. Which then turned into this fantastic idea...
Soaking any candy we could find, including Pixie Sticks, Starbursts, Now and Laters, fresh watermelon, oh and more Pixie Sticks in vodka.
Which turned into this...
ahhh...i'm not even gonna try and caption this one...

but it most certainly turned into this
Dirty, dirty sanchez
Which turned into this...

Jason trying not to take a picture of his mom's butt...lol
Which turned into a midnight flashlight search for Lisa because she got out of her bed and into Aunt Louise's without anyone seeing her. Then when we found her and put her back in bed, she moved back into Louise's bed, not ten minutes later.

Which turned into this note we found the next morning in our room.

I've never drank so much in my life. And I've never had so much fun.
Thanks guys, we can't wait until next year.

Jazzfest 2010

Daddacat came down and we all went to Jazzfest for the first time. We had a blast. We are exhausted, bloated, toxified, hoarse and a bit deaf but isn't that a good thing?

Here are some crappy cell phone pics to illustrate.

Mardi Gras Indians

Trombone Shorty

The Dead Weather
with appropriate weather...

Frances the Frog

Pan's Labyrinth Entrance Tree

Beautiful Sunset

Thanks for everything, Daddacat. We love you much and can't wait until next year!

My sister is cuter than yours

She drew all over the front and back of her thank you card. So cute! Love you, bug.

words fail

except for maybe this one...
This is bigger than football.
This is bigger than Mardi Gras.
It's bigger than you or me or them.
This is sacred.
This is us.
This is New Orleans.

Black & Gold to the Superbowl....

I am first and foremost a baseball fan. I say that because it will explain how superstitious I am and why we insisted on staying home for the Saints Conference Championship game. We've been home for every win. Baseball players and fans are notoriously superstitious (in case you didn't know). But just try and imagine how much that team means to the people of this city, there are plenty of articles out there that try and explain it. The Friday before the game, the only thing they played on the radio was Saints songs and you had to watch the national news to hear about anything other than the game. "Go Saints" and "Who Dat" became synonymous with "hello" and "goodbye". Literally. All I can say is, it was an amazing night. I'm glad that we went out after the game. Even though my stomach continues to pay the price for it. It was a historic season. A historic win. And we were there.
We were here.

Here are some horrible, blurry cell pics for you.

This is getting off the ferry.
Fans from the other side climbed the separation fence and well...you get the idea.

This is Canal Street. Mind you, this is 11:00 pm on a Sunday night. And try to imagine the sheer noise from almost every single one of these cars honking and the passengers whooping and hollering.

This is about when we stopped taking coherent photos.
Not sure if Stef is trying to stab her eye out or what...
To our bartenders, did we pay you?
To all of you we called and texted all night long, sorry.
Sort of....
